What is Serial Number ?
Since 1986, CHANEL has equipped each of its bags with an identity card and a laser
label to enhance anti-counterfeiting measures and product information functionalities.
There are two places where you can find a unique code that identifies a bag, and
the codes in these two places will be identical and can indicate the production year.
Common codes consist of seven or eight Arabic numerals, but occasionally,
you might encounter a six-digit code where the leading zero has been omitted.
More recent models have codes composed of random characters.
Serial Number and Year Reference Table
Before 1986, there were no authenticity cards or
laser labels ; this is known as the no-card label period.
Starting in April 2021, a few small leather goods still retain laser labels,
but most bags have abandoned codes and switched to NFC chips with
random codes, and the black authenticity card has been discontinued.
The anti-counterfeiting upgrade makes it more durable and
allows for product-related information to be accessed via code lookup.
NFC chips require special machines at boutiques to be read.
The random codes are composed of a unique combination of letters
and Arabic numerals, with each bag corresponding to a unique code.
In June 2022, a new version of the laser label
appeared, but this version usually appears on small handbags.
Styles such as CF and Leboy still use the chip with a metal label.
