The Hermès Picotin Lock bag was created with horse oats bags as its original prototype.
Its design inspiration stems directly from horse feeding bags. In French, "Picotin" originally referred to a unit of measure for horse feed.
エルメスの「ピコタン・ロック」は、馬の飼料袋を原型として作られたバッグです。
そのデザインのインスピレーションは、馬にエサを与えるための飼料袋から直接得られています。フランス語の「Picotin（ピコタン）」は、もともと馬の飼料の容量単位を意味していました。
The spacious bucket design was originally intended to hold fodder, and the handles could even be hung over a horse's ears so the animal could eat while walking.
Due to its bucket-like appearance resembling an everyday market basket, it has been affectionately nicknamed the "Picotin Basket"
広々としたバケツ型のデザインは本来飼料を入れるためのもので、ハンドルは馬の耳に掛けることすらでき、歩きながらエサを食べられるよう設計されていました。

Just like the Picotin, the inspiration for the Hermès Evelyne bag is deeply rooted in the equestrian world. However, it was not originally made for horses, but as a portable tool bag for grooms.
